On Saturday, October 20, our Outreach Ministry will be sponsoring a Poverty Simulation that will be presented by John Moore, Executive Director of Uplift Chatham.
The goal of the day is to call attention to those in our community who live in poverty and see if you could survive a month in poverty. As followers of Christ, we are called to help those in most need. But why are there people constantly in poverty? Come learn about the scope and challenges of poverty locally and how individuals and organizations can work together to help.
You will have the chance to be a part of a powerful simulation where you will get a feel for the challenges facing low-income people by taking on the role of someone in crisis who is seeking food, shelter, and other basic necessities. You will be enlightened and inspired. This will be an important perspective for you to have either as a staff member, school faculty member or as someone who works with our many service ministries. Often we can take for granted the blessings we have been given and not understand the daily plight of those who try to survive on so little. To that end, I invite your strong consideration of this important event.
As a parish striving to be Intentional Disciples of Christ, we have the opportunity to "walk in their footsteps" for a short morning of understanding and empathy.
