BOOK GROUP OPPORTUNITY for LENT 2023 Saturdays, February 25 - April 1, 2023
10:30am to 12:00 noon via Zoom
Sister Helen Prejean, author of Dead Man Walking, once wrote, “If we believe that murder is wrong and not admissible in our society, then it has to be wrong for everyone, not just individuals but governments as well.” Death Penalty: Evolution of Catholic Teaching, by author Alice Hugh Brown, is a 2021 publication based on decades of experience and insights from Sister Helen. This slim volume, heralded by the Catholic Mobilizing Network, is an excellent means of bringing to light the evolution of Church teaching and to illuminate Pope Francis’ 2018 statement, “The death penalty is inadmissible, and Catholics should work for its abolition.”
This is a six-week, virtual study group via Zoom. Participants will meet on Saturdays during Lent (February 25 to April 1, 2023) from 10:30am to 12:00noon. The group will be led by Nancy Jones, co-founder and Director of Catholics for Abolition in North Carolina, from the Diocese of Raleigh. Participants will be taking part in short readings and discussing the book, Dignity and the Death Penalty: Evolution of Catholic Teaching. The book, published by RENEW International, can be ordered here.
CONTACT FOR MORE INFORMATION: Please email Kathy Siemer.
TO ATTEND: Please complete the form below by February 11, 2023. Participants will be limited to 12.
From Nancy Jones, “This book and its subject matter promise participants a prayerful and perceptive six weeks together!”
