Mission Statement/Purpose
To offer parish programming that will deepen Catholic understanding that all people are made in God’s image and likeness. The goals are Connection (we will truly see each other as brothers and sisters in Christ), raised awareness of Barriers to Connection (personal/ structural sin), and Prayer and Action (changing personal/societal behaviors.) The specific emphases are racism and cultural diversity.

Major Accomplishments

• In 2021 the Image and Likeness Committee (ILC) launched St Thomas More's first survey to People of Color in our parish to develop strategies this year to make programming and activities more inclusive. To read the results of this survey, CLICK HERE. (para Español) 

 

• We designed activities for Catholic Black History Month, put up a “Pray to End Racism” banner on Fordham Blvd and created a video for Christmas that showed many ethnic images of Jesus.

 

• We scheduled a Zoom meeting to bring members of our Anglo and Hispanic communities together in conversation and provided parishioners links to events around our Diocese that explore the sinfulness of racism and the history of racism in our area/church.

Meeting Frequency
Monthly on the 4th Wednesday at 7:00 pm via Zoom..

Meeting Venue 
Meetings are held remotely via Zoom.

Estimated Time Commitment for Volunteers
Participation in one 90-minute meeting per month and 4-6 hours of subcommittee work per month.

Special Skills
The ILC seeks diverse voices to help fulfill our mission. An interest in racial equity and social justice is needed. In 2021-22, the ILC is especially in need of individuals with skills in data analysis, program development, marketing, and fundraising.
