Hello Palm Sunday Processioners!
One of the beautiful traditions we have in our Faith is the Palm Sunday Procession. In many countries and places in the world it is a highlight of the community preparation for Easter. People join the procession and carry the palms to the church after marching around the central square of the community. For us in America, and this community in Chapel Hill, we are so spread out geographically, that marching around the town square and into the church is a bigger trip than is practical. Plus, we would have to teach the community how to participate correctly.
In this period of decreased road traffic, it is evident once again, that driver’s education is failing in some areas of procession friendly driving. So, here’s a refresher…
The right lane is the travel lane. The left lane is the passing lane. We should all be in the right lane unless we are passing someone. Everyday we see people traveling slowly around the world in the left lane. The procession of Palms should not be passing cars while they are in the left lane, so practice now and move over. Directional signals on the cars are very helpful for Evangelization, use them. (See what happens when we have access to speak out.)
This year’s Palm Sunday will be different for all of us. St. Thomas Aquinas said,
“The happy man in this life needs friends.”
Please keep up with your friends during this time of sheltering at home. Pray for them and call them. We are all spiritually joined with Jesus Christ into the procession into Jerusalem!
See you in the right lane.
Fr. Chris :)
