PSALM 34:6 (THE POOR MAN CRIED AND THE LORD HEARD HIM………..) This is the Theme of the world day of the poor, instituted by Pope Francis. The pope invites all people of Good will to react to this call of Psalm 34:6. People should hear the cry of the poor and respond.
At the close of the second quarter I wish to convey to you my deepest appreciation for responding to God’s call to listen and react to the needs of the poor. This year’s donations have been simply marvelous and much work has also gone into it, to make sure your support gets to as many as possible the very poor and needy. I am very sure God is at work in you and has used you to save many lives whose story otherwise would have been miserable without your financial intervention. The poor and those associated with my work appreciate you so much and their prayers are always with you that God will meet you at every point of your need.
INFORMATION FROM THE PARISH; this year has been good despite the work load. With your support many lives have been transformed. I will like to draw your attend to this pastoral challenge. One of the seven active priests living with me had a motor accident five years ago and the orthopedic surgeon did not fix the bone well which led him to visit many hospitals until his leg was finally amputated. A lot was spent to treat him but eventually the only option was to amputate the leg. He is however on an artificial leg now. In his current situation he can’t ride a motor bike again and we have made many appeals to support him with a car to help him carry out his pastoral work. The appeal has yielded ghc 13,00.00 but the cost of a home used car cost ghc 65,000.00 the minimum. As we are still appealing I wish to humbly bring this to your knowledge so that you will also continue to pray for the success of the appeal.
The work is divided into these categories
Food support- we have been able to secure over 500 bags of maize to meet the needs of as many poor as possible. Those who are constructing houses got maize to be used in preparing food for the workers. We bought close to 300 bags of groundnuts shared along the same lines with the maize. I was able to buy 80 bags of the local polished rice which is expensive because the cost of one bag of rice can buy 3 bags of maize. I bought 70 bags of beans which is a little more than that of the rice. All food stuff bought was shared to the poor according to their needs. Today this report goes with the last bag of food to leave the stores in THE HOUSE OF BREAD
Housing project- With almost 99% of the housing project completed I can confidently say I have constructed 27 houses to shelter the poor mostly, widows, blind, lepers aged sick. It takes a long time to construct a house especially for the poor people because of the labor involve. We have to get women to fetch the water and young people to work and have to pay the artisans. Some time we have to buy the water. Most of the houses were started in November of last year and have only just been completed. The financial accounts of the house are included in the quarterly financial reports because at the time of the financial report I report how much has been spent up to that time. Depending on the nature of the soil we often use concrete blocks for the foundation but houses in the up lands don’t need that.
School fees- The school fees has done so much to transform the youth Basic education is free but we spend on their uniforms, books transportation to those whose schools are far from Navrongo. The rest of the school fees expenditure goes to those in tertiary education and vocational schools.
Health- We pay for the Health Insurance of the poor and for medicines that patients are asked to buy. The health insurance covers only first aid and very cheap drugs.
Self -help projects- We help young people with entrepreneurial skills to open small businesses. Buying fertilizer for poor farmers and paying for the ploughing cost of poor people who are capable of farming
Water project- supported the Nyaga community to reconstruct an old bore hole.
