Blaine was born in Cambridge, Ohio; but he grew up in Chicago from infancy to age 30, when he moved to North Carolina. Blaine recently concluded his clinical work at Duke Hospital where he was for decades a physician assistant in Internal Medicine/Hospital Medicine. He loves science and math, and recently completed (and got credit for) Calculus II at an area college.
He was reared in a strict, evangelical Christian background. Then, in young adulthood he was confirmed in the Episcopal Church where he remained active lifelong, as a Licensed Lay Minister, leading prayers, lectoring and serving the Chalice at the altar. Throughout his life, Blaine has been keenly aware of the Catholic faith, and its history and traditions. Finally, he was inspired to be open to discernment of being received into the Catholic Church. He reached out to his Catholic friends; and he embarked on extensive online reading and research on "becoming a Catholic."
Driving past St. Thomas More every day, to and from work, he finally contacted Fr. Chris Koehn for information about RCIA approximately a year ago. Blaine is attracted to the historicity, liturgy and authority of the Catholic Church due to its unbroken apostolic succession. He is inspired by the lives of the Saints and by the sacred music and art of the church. He is delighted to learn of the hundreds of Catholic priests and laypeople throughout the ages, who were mathematicians and scientists. Blaine looks forward to continued spiritual growth and fellowship among other sincere Catholics.
