Dr. John Thorp is from Nash and Edgecombe Counties in Eastern North Carolina (Tarboro and Rocky Mount). John is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UNC School of Medicine. He has been Catholic for 11 years and has also been a parishioner at St. Thomas More for 11 years. John’s faith flourished in the Anglican community in his youth, as well as through the Charismatic movement and various evangelical congregations in his mid-life. He has also served on a Vatican committee led by Pope Emeritus Benedict looking at conscience in medical education. In the Catholic faith, John is most interested in the union of faith and reason, as well as access to sacraments. John loves to work with RCIA because it is a chance to interact with a wide variety of people on a faith journey similar to his own.
