Janet Thompson was born and raised in Winston-Salem, NC. Janet goes by ‘Ack’. Her oldest grandchild named her that 35 years ago; it stuck, and now all her family, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren call her Ack, plus friends and other relatives. Ack was married in Winston-Salem and also raised her family there. She lived in Winston-Salem until her husband’s retirement in 1988. Ack’s occupation has and always will be Mom and homemaker - she loves it! She was baptized as a baby at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Winston- Salem and has remained an Episcopalian ever since. She decided to investigate the Catholic Church in the recent months due to the abortion issues; she could not support any church that supported late abortion. Ack’s introduction to St. Thomas More was through her neighbors, Joe Carol and John Thorp. After Ack decided to move to the Outer Banks of NC, it made total sense for her to become a Catholic as there is a lovely little chapel down there - Our Lady of the Seas. She has thoroughly enjoyed meeting her fellow travelers along this road (even though it has been through zoom) and has appreciated the patience and kindness of the catechists.
**A note about the photo from Ack: “This was one of my favorite times in South Africa. I was at Camp Jabulani which is a rescue facility for elephants. My 25-plus days there were magical and life changing.”
