Makayla Brannen is originally from Grimes, Iowa. She currently works as a 5th Grade Teacher in Wake County. Makayla was baptized and confirmed in a Methodist church in her hometown. In her late teens, she began attending a Lutheran church, which she attended until she moved to North Carolina in the summer of 2019. Makayla was inspired to discern the Catholic faith because of her fiancé, Bobby, who is Catholic. Throughout their relationship, Makayla and Bobby attended Catholic masses together. As they prepare to get married next summer and eventually start a family, Makayla and Bobby want to be unified in their faith. Makayla attended masses at St. Thomas More (pre-covid) and loved the church - how welcoming everyone was and how much she could hear and feel God there. In choosing St. Thomas More’s RCIA program, Makayla says that “[i]t was a no-brainer for me to complete RCIA with St. Thomas More when I was ready to start my Catholic journey.” Makayla loves the rich liturgy and traditions in the Catholic faith. In an everchanging world, it is one thing she believes that remains sacred and steadfast.
