Mary Sykes is an Associate Spiritual Director of the West Virginia Institute for Spirituality where she is pursuing certification in spiritual direction (completion expected November 2021). Mary is establishing a private practice of spiritual direction at St. Thomas More parish in Chapel Hill, NC.
Mary feels called to assist individuals deepen their relationship with the Lord as they seek to recognize how God is moving and working in their lives. Mary feels particularly called to minister to those who are seeking God’s merciful healing and forgiving love.
Mary has participated in a number of prayer and healing ministries during the past twenty years and come to know God’s personal love and freedom through praying with and for others.
Mary is a wife and mother of two grown sons. She has been married fifty-two years and has one granddaughter. She and her husband, Jim, retired to NC from MD in 2011. Mary has participated in various ministries at St. Thomas More including leading the Catholic Mothers Bible Study (and playgroup) for the past seven years, serving as volunteer and Coordinator of the parish Caring and Sharing Ministry, serving on the Core Team for the annual parish Come and See Retreat, leading group discussions in various ministries and volunteering in the parish office.
Mary worked as an Editorial and Executive Assistant to the President and Editor and Chairman of the Board of a worldwide publication and after raising her sons supported other executives (CFO and COO) in the corporate world. She worked as a contract administrator and paralegal to the General Counsel of an International Software company, and then as office manager for two non-profit organizations before retiring.
Mary is a member of Spiritual Directors International and abides by SDI’s Guidelines for Ethical Conduct.
