Mission Statement/Purpose
The mission of the Prayer Shawl Ministry is to provide a tangible reminder of God’s love to those in need. We use our time and God-given talent to create shawls, baby blankets and lap robes while praying for the recipient. In praying, we ask for physical, mental and spiritual healing as well as peace and comfort for those suffering from a serious illness or injury, those grieving the loss of a loved one and those confined to homes. Shawls are given to those in need of comfort and solace, but also in celebration and joy.
Major Accomplishments
Over 400 prayer shawls have been made since inception of the Ministry in January 2015. In addition members have occasionally crafted hats and scarfs to donate in conjunction with the St Thoomas More Caring and Sharing Center" Coat Drive."
Major Activity
Participants create hand-crafted prayer shawls that are blessed by our clergy and presented to those in need of God's loving embrace, comfort and warmth or are celebrating a major milestone in their lives.
Meeting Frequency
We gather every Wednesday between 10am-12pm, but it is not necessary to attend for the entire two hours.
Some crafters who are unable to join the weekly gathering, knit or crochet and pray from home and donate their finished shawls for Ministry distribution.
