Mission Statement/Purpose
Wedding Committee members help with the wedding rehearsals and weddings at St. Thomas More. We work in groups of two or three to help set up the church or chapel, assist with the running of the rehearsal, help with the processional, help with the Eucharist, and provide other assistance as needed.
Major Accomplishments
The Wedding Committee has assisted at the English weddings at St. Thomas More to assure that wedding rehearsals and weddings run smoothly.
Major Activity
The Wedding Committee will continue to provide the same services at all of the English-speaking weddings. We welcome new members and will provide all necessary training.
Meeting Frequency and Venue
The Wedding Committee has an occasional evening meeting to schedule weddings and train new members, but attendance at these meetings isn’t required. Most wedding rehearsals take place on Fridays (usually at 6, sometimes at 4 or 7). Weddings take place on Saturday mornings and afternoons. Meetings and work are at the church or chapel.
Estimated Time Commitment for Volunteers
Committee members choose which weddings they would like to work. Scheduling is usually done via e-mail and attendance isn’t required at the rare scheduling meetings. Most members average less than one wedding per month, but it depends on the number of committee members and the number of weddings. For each wedding, one committee member phones the bride beforehand, about an hour is required for the wedding rehearsal, and about 3 to 4 hours is required for the wedding.
Special Skills
Wedding Committee members are encouraged to become Eucharistic Ministers since they are sometimes needed at the weddings which are full Masses. Note, though, that people may take the Eucharistic Minister training and ask to be listed only as a substitute if they don’t want to serve regularly at Sunday Masses. Members need to work well with others, be helpful, and remain calm.
